What happens if you suddenly get sick in a new city and get rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night, it can become very frightening as your life is set on the line. How long do you know until what's wrong in your body? How long before the hospital does all the blood work, figures out what medication you’re on, how about diagnosing you, how about any allergies you might have - what if you can’t communicate any of that?
So, how might we bridge the information gap between doctors and clients' medical record so that overall care can be improved? Cura provides a holistic electronic medical record for doctors to use so that precise health decisions can be made.
In the Ontario medical system there is an information gap between doctors and their clients medical records. This is mainly due to privacy laws (access of information), low-continuity of care (clients not being able to visit the primary care doctor), and the process of transferring information.
This project will focus on the process of transferring medical information which involves faxing files, sending physical copies or PDF files on disc to the other clinic(s). This process increases the time for information to be transferred between clinics, clients and doctors. Furthermore, not all information is shared between the circle of care of the client and any new doctors entering the circle of care must request all information from the other doctors.
Cura is designed for licensed health professionals in Ontario who have a major impact on patients' healthcare. Ideally, patients would also have access to their own medical record.
Cura provides health professionals a clinical agenda that incorporates multiple working locations, automated updates for patients' electronic medical records and prescribe medication at ease.
An integrated medical system allows medical information from all doctors in the circle of care of the patient to be incorporated so that precise health decisions can be made.
Have full knowledge of their clients medical history so that they can provide accurate judgment on their clients health.
Doctors do not have to request the same or extra tests to be done therefore reduces the waiting time of results.
Cura is integrated with pharmacies so that medication can be easily prescribed and ready for patients to pick-up!
There is a huge disconnect between the circle of care for patients and the transfer of information is extremely time consuming. An integrated medical system empowers health professionals to communicate between with one another and their decision making. It also improves the doctor-to-patient experience by increasing confidences in the doctors' judgment about the care they provide. This method can also prevent extra costs on unnecessary testing that cost significant amount of taxpayers money.
